Ear Infections
I’ve been dealing with a biological terrorist inside of my head box for a few months now.
Like this terrorist, the Trump administration has been attacking freedom and decency like the bug attacking my hearing.
It throws me off balance, distracts me from day to day activity, and stops me from the death like release of sleep that I so crave.
It might be hyperbole, but it is also very true. As the rot in the media continues, few victories like the resurrection of Jimmy Kimmel and his show provide brief moments of clarity and hope.
It’s extremely important to recognize that these are not wins in a sense, just a return to normal bodily activity.
As disease targets the body, symptoms like clogged ears, loss of balance, and headaches can make you forget what being healthy feels like.
Remember the time when we could hold power to account? Me either. I do remember not having to think about it. That’s what’s missing from my mind the most.
I want to be able to return to the streets, walk freely without the need to carry a passport because I could be mistaken for an immigrant. That used to bring me pride, being so different from the baseline of Brooklyn that I was assumed to be from somewhere else. Now, like many other decent persons in the city, it feels like a liability.
I know many people of different races, colors, and creed have had to deal with this in much more focus than I have. I regret they have to feel this way on a good day. It terrifies me how people must be feeling due to the results of a minority rigging a system that is supposed to protect them.
As our rights erode, it will be hard to put them back to normal, but with any type of destruction, opportunity emerges.
Maybe then we can move forward again.
Winter is coming, as the cunning wolves of house Stark remind us in Game of Thrones. The next season doesn’t need to be bad, or the final run.
You voted for this, now vote to fix it. If you don’t, go fuck yourself.
